Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

The Owls and Physics

If we categorized each day in the Owls room into different concrete themes, today's theme would be the early childhood exploration of physics. It seems that throughout the day, there was always something that related to this exploration.

Out in the hall, friends enjoyed playing with ball ramps, but the construction of the pathways became incredibly elaborate, with careful thought given to path that the balls would roll. There were turns, tunnels, and even a ledge for the ball to drop off, with another pipe path there to direct it after it fell!
We had the first consistently-above-freezing day for weather in what feels like years, so we spent a large part of our morning outside. While out there, many of the Owls played on the monkey bars, which of course teaches so many scientific concepts, like that of gravity, friction, and weight distribution. Today, many friends challenged themselves to hang upside-down by holding with their weight with their hands while wrapping their legs around bars. Although very difficult (especially for little bodies that are still developing core strength), they were very careful, and so proud when they accomplished their feat.
The Owls were also creating seesaws using various playground objects as fulcrums. They experimented with balance and weight distribution while laughing and having fun!

We also continued with cooperative board games today
