Today I am so thankful for the amazing community to which we belong. At every turn, it seemed, we were drawn into interesting experiences around the school.

sorting insects |
The day began, as it often does, with some children feeding our pet turtle Slider. Caimin's family had shared an assortment tasty freeze dried insects with the class, but told us that Slider didn't like the crickets because the were too big. As we were talking about this, it seemed to make sense to take the crickets out of the mixture. As we sorted them, we wondered what we could do with them, and Tamara suggested that we could visit Rosanne the Science Teacher to see if she had any ideas.
It turns out that she has some BIG turtles in her room who were very hungry! We were so intrigued as the baby snapping turtle (who is already much bigger than Slider) ate several of the crickets. She invited us to come back any time to visit the critters in her room.
Next we went to a show with the Catbirds! We brought a picnic snack to the resource room that has a Smart Board. There, we got to watch a movie from the Winter Program. The Owls had not gotten to see the magic of the jelly fish, and they were awed! Perhaps the Owls favorite part of the show, however, where the many sightings of older siblings! Everytime we saw GK, Lucas, Rainey or Amira, the whole class cheered in recognition!
On the playground, the monkey bars served a a great unifier, as every class who came out wanted to take a turn!

gangam style! |
Later in the morning, we were playing in the classroom when some Upper School photography students came to visit. They wanted to take some pictures for their class, and the Owls had lots of ideas about what they should take pictures of and how, and the big kids even joined us for a dance party!
