Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Papel y Presiona Aqui

Today, we started to pay homage to one of the most commonly overrated tools in school existence: paper. The Owls, like most people in first world countries, move about their day, often overlooking how essential paper is to the flow of all that is happening. Owl teachers noticed that as our friends advance in the Early Childhood world, they are using paper in increasingly complex ways: painting, writing, drawing cutting, folding, tearing, crumpling, and more.

Well, this morning we read Trees to Paper by Inez Snyder, which talks about the process that trees go through in order to become the sheets that we so regularly see. We let the Owls know that next week we will even get to make paper with Sam! We encouraged friends to use in different ways today, and focused on painting paper using stamps. This was actually the start of what will be a collage that incorporates many different sheets of paper, textures, and mediums in order to create the piece of art.
We also were visited by Alicia today, for a clase de Español. We read Presiona Aqui, which is the the Spanish version of one of our favorites, Press Here by Herve Tullet. The book asks listeners to interact with the illustrations of circles, which include blowing, shaking, counting, and naming colors. This simple and clear book is perfect for Spanish practicing Owls, because it is clearly worded, repetitive, and discusses fundamental terms.

Here is a video of us counting with Alicia!
