Children and adults were abuzz with stories about the storm as they came into school. We started the morning reading the book, "Hurricanes," by Matt Doden. Later, we took turns telling our "Storm Stories" into the voice recorder. The children were delighted to hear their voices and stories played back to them.
After working on our owl masks with Lalasa, playing in the dramatic play area, and building GIANT magnatile buildings, we headed down to the Music Room where Jason met us with a big smile. He had laid out a circle of instruments. One person quickly identified them as xylophones! Jason then taught us something new! Instruments with wooden blocks are xylophones, but the instruments we were going to play had metal slats. They are called
glockenspiels. We learned a song about two little pumpkins sitting on the hill. When the pumpkins in the song ran away, we learned how to do a
glissando, sliding the mallet along the length of the glockenspiel to make a beautiful sound.
