Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

The Story of the Storm and a Foray to the Music Room

Children and adults were abuzz with stories about the storm as they came into school. We started the morning reading the book, "Hurricanes," by Matt Doden. Later, we took turns telling our "Storm Stories" into the voice recorder. The children were delighted to hear their voices and stories played back to them.

After working on our owl masks with Lalasa, playing in the dramatic play area, and building GIANT magnatile buildings, we headed down to the Music Room where Jason met us with a big smile. He had laid out a circle of instruments. One person quickly identified them as xylophones! Jason then taught us something new! Instruments with wooden blocks are xylophones, but the instruments we were going to play had metal slats. They are called glockenspiels. We learned a song about two little pumpkins sitting on the hill. When the pumpkins in the song ran away, we learned how to do a glissando, sliding the mallet along the length of the glockenspiel to make a beautiful sound.

Second Grade Readers, Tee Shirts, and Research

Our Second Grade readers came to our room today, and shared all kinds of books with us. They had also prepared two questions to ask their Owl partners. They are becoming such good readers, and the Owls love hearing the stories.

Then we lined up and the Second Graders took us to show off their classroom. They were in the middle of an Art Party, and gave us some art to bring back to our room!

We are just about finished our shirts, with the help of Pat's dad Neil!
We also started a list of research questions for our Research about Letter Writing.
