Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Let's Do Everything Today!

The Owls had an absolutely whirlwind day today! Our morning kicked off with an annual stewardship Meeting for Worship. This is a special time where all of Lower School gets together to focus on how we can help to be "stewards", or helpers, of the earth. We gathered out front of the school, listened to a lovely story read by the first grade teacher Shannon, and shared some moments of silence with all the Lower School students at AFS. What a wonderful community event!
We then had a special music lesson today. A search has begun to find a part-time music teacher since Jason next year will be appointed Assistant Director of Lower School in addition to his music duties. As part of the interviewing process, candidates deliver a lesson to a class, so we got to experience a lesson by the first candidate. We showed off our collective prowess as instrument players, singers, and body movers.
We also went to the Art Room to create finger paintings inspired by Van Gogh's famous "Sunflowers Number 2". We carefully studied the way that the master rendered the flowers with crude delicacy, which made finger painting a wonderful choice when it came time for the Owls to try their hands (get it?) at making sunflowers.
