Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Español con las Lechuzas y los Búhos: Formas (Shapes)

¡Bienvenidos! During la clase de Español, it was Penny’s turn to choose our destination to a Spanish speaking country. Following our morning salutations, she suggested we head to Argentina. Upon our return flight, we gathered in a círculo.

Once settled, we read Scholastic’s book, Figuras Geométricas, which introduced us to the Spanish vocabulary words for basic geometrical shapes.

vocabulary words:
circle - círculo
oval - óvalo
triangle - triángulo
rectangle - rectángulo
square - cuadrado
rhombus - rombo
star - estrella
heart – corazón

Afterwards, we practiced the words by using a wooden puzzle with “chunky” pieces and matched the vocabulary word to the shape that was being held up. To further reinforce our learning we played the “Swatter Game” using three shapes; círculo, rombo, y cuadrado. Las Lechuzas y los Búhos did great! It was astonishing to hear how much they already knew.

We finished our class with our traditional ¡Adios. Hasta luego! song and Penny squeezing la vaca. ¡Gracias, Penny!

¡Hasta nuestro proximo viaje!

Paz,
Alicia
