Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Bye, Bye Butterfly!

This morning, we said goodbye to our butterflies. We got them when they were tiny little caterpillars and we took good care of them, giving them the food that they needed. They used their silk to create chrysalises and slowly transformed into butterflies! They emerged a week ago, and gained their bearings; learning to crawl, eat and fly in our pavilion. Today we took them to the field, sat in a circled and shared a moment of silence as we opened up their pavilion so that they could be free. We watched as they experienced the grass and fresh air for the first time. We lovingly chased them and tried to catch them as they took their first flights in the Spring air.
"Catch it!"
"I'm a butterfly too!"
Before we released them, we had a meeting and discussed wishes that we had for the butterflies. Most friends shared, and their wishes were delightful!
Patrick: We could wish them for sunflowers
Pharoah: We can get the butterflies to eat the carpenter bees.
Mimi: To be in love and happiness
Kevin: I wish that the it can eat carpenter bees.
Matt: I wish that the butterflies could come back another day.
Wills: I wish we could get the plant [that attracts butterflies] and plant it.
Alexander: That they will make a milkweed plant near our school
Harper: We could get them the milk weed.
Annabel: They can fly with their wings.
Pharaoh: My butterfly is going to be bigger and bigger to eat the carpenter bee.
Penny: I wish that they could drink the milk from a bee.
Elise: I wish that they could come back.
Patrick: I wish they would have a beautiful pair of fruit.
Mimi: I wish they could have a prettiest rainbow.
WIlls: I wish they had clothes to wear.
Matt: I wish my butterfly would come to my house.

Other Owlings:
Having an outside morning meeting
"3+2 is....5!"
