Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

'Round the Sun, 'Round the Desert, 'Round the Incubator

Today we visited Jason in music! We worked on combining several things that we've been working on with him throughout the year, attempting to create a piece that incorporated movement (clapping hands), singing, and instrument-playing. The words to the song are as follows:
Sally goes 'round the sun
Sally 'round the moon
Sally goes 'round the chimney tops
Every afternoon
Below is a short clip of the vocal melody, if you would like to bring it into your home:
In the song there were three different sections of instruments playing.
We had the bells playing during the continued vocal melody and holding the rhythm,  bongos playing when we sand the word "sun", a ratchet playing when we sang the word "moon", and drums playing when we sang the words "...chimney top every afternoon". The collaboration required to bring this piece together was challenging (especially since there were so many parts!) but the Owls worked hard and are tried to bring the music together!
In the classroom, we began constructing the board for our classroom board game! The rules of the game (which are still evolving) came from the Owls. The general storyline is that a cowboy and other players are in a desert trying to retrieve a cowboy hat. BUT, there is a mean cowboy who is trying to steal the hat first!
We also visited visited Kindergarten to see their newly hatched baby chicks! Every Spring, Kindergarten receives a batch of eggs from a local farm. The eggs are provided with an incubator, a heat lamp, and loving care to help them hatch. The Owls were amazed to meet these new friends!
 Other Owlings:
water+cornstarch=quite the sensory experience!
watercolors and tissue paper to make daffodils
