Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Español con las Lechuzas y los Búhos: revisión (revision)

¡Bienvenidos! During our recent clase de Español, it was Matthew’s turn to choose our destination to a Spanish speaking country. After our morning greeting, he suggested we head to Argentina.

Once we arrived we gathered in a círculo and reviewed the vocabulary words for different styles of transportation.

 carro - car
bote - boat
autobús - bus
camión - truck
bicicleta - bicycle
tren – train
motocicleta – motorcycle
avión – airplane

To further reinforce our learning and boost our visual memory skill we played a game using transportation counter pieces. Four forms of transportation were used; un tren verde, un carro azul, un bote morado, y un avión anaranjado. Then, one of the pieces would be removed and the Lechuzas y los Búhos had to guess which piece was missing. Once they figured it out, they had to identify which piece it was by using its Spanish word for transportation and its color. What a wonderful time we had playing this game! The Lechuzas y los Búhos were so amazing that it wasn’t long before I needed to add more pieces into the game to make it more challenging. Go ahead. Try it at home and see for yourselves how smart they are.

Next, to review our learning of some of our facial features, we sang a song. Using the same verse, we sang it for each facial feature: ojos, nariz, boca, y orejas.

Esta es mi cabeza, (This is my head,)
Estos son mis pies. (These are my feet.)
Estos son mis ojos. (These are my eyes,)
Uno, dos y tres. (One, two, three.)

Esta es mi cabeza, (This is my head,)
Estos son mis pies. (These are my feet.)
Estas son mis orejas. (These are my ears,)
Uno, dos y tres. (One, two, three.)

We finished our class with our traditional ¡Adios. Hasta luego! song and Matthew squeezing la vaca. ¡Gracias, Matthew!

¡Hasta nuestro proximo viaje!

Paz,
Alicia
