Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Fire Alarms, Flu Shots, Picnic Spots

Guess what! It's flu season! The wonderful AFS nurse, Heidi, has offered flu shots to all faculty to help keep our staff healthy and protected. Tamara decided to take Heidi up on her offer, and further decided to make it a public event. All the Owls gathered in the hallway outside the nurse's office, and observed. Heidi explained why we get shots, and asked if anyone had gotten a flu shot yet. Some friends said yes, and some expressed fear and/or pain from shots. Tamara showed friends that it's okay to be scared, but it's still important to stay healthy! She braved the dreaded needle, and impressed us with her calm and collected manner. What a trooper!
Carefully watching...

Cool bandaids make it all worthwhile.
Today we had our first ever...FIRE DRILL. We carefully discussed what a fire drill is, why we have them, and what we do when they occur. Was a challenge presented by having the first fire drill of the year on a Monday? Yes. When the alarm was sounded, did friends scream? Did the loud noise cause a panic and uproar? Of course not! Our Owls were well prepared, and stayed in control the entire time.

Waiting patiently outside
We also ventured to the meadow outside of Lower School today for a picnic and to enjoy the warm day that November has presented. We sat in leaves under a tree, ate lunch, and then collected sticks and climbed on the awesome climbing tree!

 Other joyful things:
Balancing his lunch box and water bottle on the end of a stick
A visit from Gwen
We received "Winter King, Summer Queen" in the mail! One of our class favorites!
