Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

"The Pes Poles:" (Sound it out letter by letter)

Today is International Peace Day, and after sharing our ideas about peace at Morning Meeting, the Owls were inspired to go on a peace mission. They love daily missions with Mike around the school, and given that peace was on their mind, it turned into a Peace Police (or "Pes Poles") mission. There was some debate as to whether it was a secret mission, but everybody like the idea of making signs. Some children drew on their signs, and others used kid writing to sound out the letters to write. Next they taped the signs onto sticks, and we we ready to march! Well, almost. First we had to make up a peace police song. Here's how it goes:
Peace Police!
We are the Peace Police!
Peace Police!
We save the peace!

Here are their thoughts on peace:
Tori: When we be quiet.
Pat: Peace and quiet.
Elise: Peace is a peace sign.
Mimi: Close your eyes.
Pharaoh: Where cars stop.
Lucas: When you close your eyes.
Kevin: You be quiet.
Jamell: Shh, shh, shhhhh.
Sadie: I feel peaceful when I play in the sand. I think about what I'm going to do.
Penny: Peace is stopping at a stop sign.
Elise: Peace, is very useful cause it likes the earth and sky and whole world.
Amani: Peace means you sing a peaceful song.
Matthew: Peace is when things are quiet.
Alexander: When you are so quiet and you don't say words.
Lois: To be quiet.
Kevin: You have to be peaceful.
Wills: You be quiet.
Harper: I have a peace shirt one. Peace is when you are at school.
Annabel: Peace is a letter:
Harper: I've got one word: Peace is for love.
