Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

What Story Will Our Board Game Tell?

Yesterday we started talking about making our own board game. We talked about how board games all have stories, and we brainstormed ideas for what our game could be. Today we were ready to decide. Tamara suggested we could try voting. Wills was excited because he remembered voting with Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Tamara wrote the choices on separate pieces of paper, and the Owls used their name cards to vote.
It turned out that eight Owls wanted to make a cowboy game, which was the most of any of the choices. We did some quantity comparisons between the different ideas, and some children started to get worried, because they could see that there were not many votes for their ideas. It was clear that we had to do some creative thinking. We decided that the choices that had some votes could be part of our game, for instance, the fox from the fox and chickens game could be a character in the cowboy game!  The Owls were delighted with this idea!

Other Owlings:
Espanol! Lois chose Argentina as our country of the day, and she got to squeeze the "Moooo-chas Gracias" vaca.
