Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Español con las Lechuzas y los Búhos : Los transportes

¡Bienvenidos! During clase de Español, it was Lois’ turn to choose our destination to a Spanish speaking country. After our traditional morning greeting in Spanish, she suggested we head to Argentina. Upon our return, we settled into this Spanish speaking country and gathered in a círculo.

Since we start all our clases determining what mode of transportation we need to take to get to our destination, we thought it would be great to learn some forms of moving. So, we began our clase de Español revising the Spanish vocabulary words for some types of transportation as well as learning new ones.

We read Barron’s book, “Transportation/El transporte.” This book gave us the opportunity to connect the words for different kinds of transportation to its corresponding picture.

carro - car
bote - boat
autobús - bus
camión - truck
bicicleta - bicycle
excavadora – digger
tren – train
motocicleta – motorcycle
avión – airplane

After the read aloud, we reviewed the words by using life-like illustrations of different styles of transportation. Once the picture was placed on the ground, every Lechuza y Búho was encouraged to say in Spanish which mode was their favorite. One by one they took a turn and began by saying, Mi favorite es ______ (My favorite is _______), and finished the statement with their choice.

Next, we played the Swatter Game using three different styles of transportation; bote, avión, y carro. What a fruitful and fun way to help las Lechuzas y los Búhos reinforce learning!

We finished our class with our traditional song, Adios, hasta luego, and Lois squeezing la vaca. ¡Gracias, Lois!

¡Hasta nuestro proximo viaje!

Paz,
Alicia
