Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Middle School Helpers, Second Grade Story Tellers, and Spring Times

Jesse, Thomas, and Sydney played with us all morning!

We also had some more visitors this morning, Jeanne's second graders came to share their stories from their Story Telling Investigation. Their stories ranged from folk tales to scary tall tales, and they have been practicing using many dramatic tropes like gestures, dramatic pauses, and varying tones.

Great Day Assistants

Today, Tamara and Kristin were both absent. The Owls got to spend time with Emma, one of AFS's substitute teachers. We discussed at morning meeting how both Tamara and Kristin were sick, so we all agreed to become "assistants to help make the day great". We talked a little about what that would mean: first time listening, being kind to friends, etc... Indeed, though this change in routine created some challenges, the Owls adapted and had a great day. Throughout the day, words like, "You won! Congratulations!" could be heard. The ability to self-regulate and accept this additional responsibility shows how mature and wonderful our Owl friends are constantly becoming.
Today was the first day of Spring! We celebrated by spending lots of time outdoors.
"I can make my whole body like this"
Sounds inside the trashcan...
Writing letters, since there are only two days left of 1st Grade's Mail service!
"Look what happens when I smear the paper like this!"
This is a fantastic game that requires all players to work together and cooperate to advance the chicken
"Everyone won!"
Tamara and Kristin were sick today, so we got to spend the day with Emma!
