Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

Winterfest!

Today was Winterfest! Winterfest is a coming together with the whole school in the AFS gymnasium, where some of the major holidays of the season are celebrated. Songs are sung, dances are danced, skits are acted and the AFS Holiday Poem is read. Each grade in Lower School is asked to make decorations to help with the festivities, so Early Childhood was requested to make ornaments for the Christmas tree (other classes made Hanukkah and Kwanza decorations). We made paper snowflakes that added a delightful touch to the tree.

Although Winterfest can be somewhat overwhelming for a few of our youngest friends, the reminder that we are indeed a part of a much larger community at AFS is wonderful, and it is clearly visible how much joy is brought by the presence of Early Childhood; we are valued members, and we value others. We enjoyed seeing friends/family/loved ones, decorating the tree, dancing to music played by the Middle/Upper School band, singing familiar songs, watching the Upper School drama classes perform, and listening to Rich speak.
Very intense dance poses!

Today was also the final rehearsal for tomorrow's Winter Program! We are very prepared to wow the audience (Owls World Tour 2013?). We hope to see as many people as possible here at 10am tomorrow morning!
Please remember that tomorrow is also our last day before winter break, and it is also an early dismissal day at noon! Thank you!
