Welcome to our world of discovery and learning!

Welcome to our daily blog! We use it to share daily updates on our classroom, reflections on our learning with children, and photographs. Extended family, friends, neighbors, educators, etc, are also encouraged to follow the blog!
One of the wonderful aspects of blogging is that it allows real-time interaction between home and school. Is your child talking about what we are doing in school? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you interested (or even an expert!) in something we are studying? Leave us a comment and let us know! Are you planning an outing with your child to extend the classroom learning? Leave us a comment and invite other families along!
We also have a section call, "Learn More About..." When we write each post, we tag it with relevant topics. And so if you wanted to see what we have been doing with, for instance, science, you would click on that tag, and see all the posts about science.

A Loving Mail Visitor and some Color Mixing

Today, Pharaoh's daddy visited us! Frankie works for the U.S. postal service as a letter carrier, so he came in to talk to us about the process that our mail goes through before it gets to our houses. The Owls asked some wonderful questions in order to learn more.  His visit tied in wonderfully to our letter writing study. Thanks for visiting, Frankie!

We also began an exciting experiment with color mixing today using colored water and pipettes. Do you know what happens when you mix red and (very dark, almost black) blue? Some of the Owls set off to find out! See the captions below the pictures to get a peek into some of the conversations.
"It's turning dark purple. More red and more red is dark purple."
"This has nothing, this has some, this has lots!" [referring to the jars of water]
"Lightish purple, no, darkish purple."

"It's making pinkish purple. Mine's going to overflow! Explode!"
"It's making purple! It went from that, to pink, to purple!"
"It makes black! Look! See! I'm just making purple. Can you help me make purple?"
"It's making purple! I'm just making purple juice."
"It made black."
"Look! Ta-dah! It made brown, like Daddy's iPad."
"I poured, I'm mixing the colors. I pour colors from here and here...black, this color's like pink, and this color's kind of purple."
"I'm going to make purple. Red and blue, when you put it in here, it makes different colors!"

So many friends were excited to try the color mixing, that we began to make a list to make sure everyone had a turn that wanted one.
"1. Tori; 2. Pharaoh; 3. Sadie; 4. Penny"
We will be continuing this exploration of color mixing more over the next few days.

Other Owlings:
Story-time with Debbie

Pharaoh felt that he had something to say about our day, so this is what he wanted you to know:
jm, n,m.,.,.,.,,,.,.,,,mmmmmmm                                    ,mmk,mmmmn u      ======================;;pooo
Which means: "We just had a mission, and we found some compost and we just go in our school."
