¡Bienvenidos
familia, amigas, y amigos! We began our
clase
de Español with our traditional morning greeting. The greeting included a
song in Spanish followed by each of us taking a turn to say
Buenos dia along with a handshake.
Afterwards, it was Harper’s turn to tell us what country we were flying to
where Spanish is the spoken language. As she looked at the map that states all
the Spanish speaking countries, Harper pointed to Paraguay. We then spread
nuestras alas (our wings) and pretended
to
volar (fly) to this country
en avión (on plane). Upon our return, we
settled into this Spanish speaking country and gathered in a
círculo.
One
way to incorporate language practice is through games as they keep the children
entertained, interested, and on task. To help Las Lechuza y Los Búhos to contextualize the vocabulary for four of
the basic colors, we played an enjoyable game of the “Swatter Game.” First,
using cards depicting colors we reviewed the following colores:
red
– rojo
green
– verde
blue
– azul
yellow - amarillo
Then,
we placed the cards down on the ground and the Spanish word for one of the
colors is called out. Our job? Well, to “swat” the correct picture that matches
the word of course. Two friends played at a time then we were asked to pasalo (pass it) to the person next to
us. What fun! What an amazing job Las
Lechuza y Los Búhos did. Go ahead,
try it a home.
We
finished our clase de Español with
our traditional song, Adios, hasta luego,
and Harper squeezing la vaca. ¡Gracias, Harper!
¡Hasta
nuestro proximo viaje! (Until our next flight.)
