The Magic of Magna-TIles

Magna-tiles are an amazingly versatile building material. The magnetic edges allow for amazingly varied building. The children new to the magna-tiles typically start by making tall stack of tiles. This year, they have quickly moved on to three dimensional buildings, even adding embellishments. They also encourage easy collaboration as the Owls work together to build "stages," "ferries," and "giant castles for animals." And from a "teacherly" point of view, they build awareness of shapes and geometry, understanding of magnetism and spatial awareness, and fine motor coordination. Not to mention that they are just plain cool!
